Mark your calendar for the Second Annual Young Engineers Symposium on January 23, 2018. This event will give Young Engineers the opportunity to showcase their projects and experiences, and give them the chance to see what their peers are up to.

About the Presenters
Manulife Place – Connecting Urban Spaces in Downtown Calgary
Kevin Chang, P.E., S.E., P.Eng., is an Associate Structural Engineer at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP in Chicago, Illinois and has been with the firm for over six years. He has worked on various domestic and international projects including supertall buildings, mixed-use developments, and building renovations. Recent projects include Manulife Place in Calgary, Alberta; 28 Liberty in New York City; 100 Mount Street in North Sydney, Australia; and Guangzhou Chamber of Commerce in Guangzhou, China.
Accelerated Bridge Construction: Structural Analysis of Self Propelled Modular Transported Bridges
Seth Greenberg is a structural bridge engineer at Jacobs, where he has worked on design-build projects such as the California High Speed Rail and the Darlington Upgrade in Adelaide, Australia. He has experience with advanced 3D modeling of bridges and designing them to conform to a variety of building codes, including CalTrans and AS/NZS. Seth earned his B.S. from the University of Maryland and his M.S. from Northwestern University.
IL 115 over Gar Creek Bridge ABC Replacement
Vincent Scarpa, E.I.T. is a Structural Engineer at Milhouse Engineering & Construction, Inc. with over 3 years of structural engineering experience in bridges, structural inspection, and building retrofitting. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and is currently pursuing a M.S. in Civil Engineering from UIC.
Northwestern University Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center: Designing Around the Past, Present, and Future
Ben Sexton is a senior engineer at Thornton Tomasetti in their structures department where he has experience designing new buildings for the commercial, healthcare, and education markets. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Purdue University.
Design of the Expo 2020 Dubai Trellis
Jerome (JJ) Tobolski, S.E., P.E., LEED AP BD+C, is a Project Engineer at Thornton Tomasetti. A Chicago native, he has been involved in the design of projects both domestically and internationally in addition to acting as one of the firm leaders in structural optimization. Local projects with his involvement include the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University and the recent Block 37 residential addition. Internationally, JJ was most recently instrumental in the performance based seismic design of the Akhmat Tower, a 400 meter plus mixed use signature skyscraper located in the city of Grozny.
