Stop email from monopolizing your workday (and nights) -- How to Write Better Email so Your Inbox and Outbox Stop Wasting Your Time
Email takes more of our workday than we like, but we can reduce our email time burden if we write better email. Badly written emails cause more stress because they leave the reader wondering, “What do you want me to do? What are you trying to say?”
In this interactive, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn:
- How and why to present your main point at the beginning of your email
- How to write a must-open subject line
- How to format your email to make it scannable
- How to use a tone that will help you build rapport
- How to write mobile-friendly email
- How to handle negative situations in email
- How to write email templates you can reuse
Report Writing Session

No more hiding from wrapping up that report -- How to Plan Your Report Before You Write It, So It Takes Less Time to Review and Edit
It’s discouraging to spend days drafting a report (proposal, field report, observation report or white paper) only to have your manager tell you it needs a ton of changes. In this workshop, you’ll learn a process for planning your reports that will make them easier to write and more likely to make it through your manager’s review.
In this interactive, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn:
- How to budget your time for each step in the writing process
- How to use a customizable Report Planner before you begin drafting your report
- Why you should get your manager’s sign-off on the Report Planner
- How to structure the sections of your report
- Tips for creating the first draft of your report
- How to make your report flow from one section to the next
- How to manage the writing process when there are multiple authors
For each half day session, registration fees are $140 for members and $190 for non-members.
SAVE and attend both sessions! Full Day registration fees are $210 for members and $285 for non-members.

About the Speaker
Leslie O'Flahavan, E-WRITE
The workshop will be led by Leslie O'Flahavan, a get-to-the point writer and an experienced, versatile writing instructor. Since founding E-WRITE in 1996, Leslie has been writing content and teaching customized writing courses for Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. Leslie's recent experience includes working with engineers at the American Institute of Steel Construction and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Leslie is the author of three Lynda.com courses (now LinkedIn Learning), the most recent of which is on technical writing.
Leslie is the co-author of Clear, Correct, Concise E-Mail: A Writing Workbook for Customer Service Agents. She holds a B.A. in English and Rhetoric from the University of Illinois and an M.S.Ed from Northern Illinois University.
