“Five Projects” by Bill Baker

Bill Baker, Consulting Partner at SOM, will present five projects that represent the span of his work at SOM.

William Baker PE, SE, FASCE, NAE, FREng is a Structural Engineering Partner at SOM. Throughout his career, Bill has dedicated himself to innovative structural engineering design and research. His expertise covers a variety of structures at many scales; including the development of the “buttressed core” structural system for the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest man-made structure; the Broadgate Exchange House, a 10-story office building spanning 78-meters over a rail yard in London; a two-story training center for Roche Diagnostics in Indianapolis; Millennium Park’s Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago; the pedestrian bridge at Manulife Place in Calgary; the Fishers Island Residence, a 4,600 sf steel and glass single family residence in New York, with architect Thomas Phifer and Partners; Skyspace, a permanent art installation with artist James Turrell at Rice University; and research projects leading to new, highly efficient bracing and structural systems.

The evening begins with a cocktail hour at 5:00 pm. Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm, and the presentation will start shortly thereafter.

Registration

Early Bird Registration is $45 for members and $65 for non-members until 11:59pm on November 18th. After that, rates will go up to $55 for members and $75 for non-members respectively.

Cancellation

If you make a reservation and cannot attend, please cancel before Friday, November 29th. If you do not cancel by that time, please send a colleague in your place, as you will be charged.
