This full-day seminar provides an overview of railway bridge engineering and design under the AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering, and the latest design procedures, materials, and methods used in current railway bridge engineering practice. Overview topics will include AREMA loading requirements, design and constructability examples, and the requirements for compliance with FRA 237, including bridge ratings and bridge management.

 

Course handouts will be distributed electronically. Attendees will earn 7.5 hours of continuing education credit. CE certificates will be emailed after the class.

About the Speaker

Christian Brown, PE

HNTB

Christian Brown, PE, is an Associate Vice President and Project Director in HNTB’s Kansas City office. Mr. Brown has led a wide variety of bridge feasibility, design and construction projects, and has worked closely with many organizations like the United States Coast Guard and the United States Corps of Engineers in the permitting and construction of fixed and movable river crossings for highway, rail and pedestrian traffic. His project experience includes leading the largest capital bridge reconstruction projects for four of the Class I Railroads, development of Bridge Management Plans, and alternative delivery of railroad bridge reconstruction projects. He is currently HNTB’s National Rail and Movable Bridge practice leader. Chris received both his B.S. in Architectural Engineering and M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas. He is an active member in several professional societies, including the AREMA, SAME, ACEC and HMS. Chris is a registered professional engineer in nine states, and has published multiple papers covering his projects while with HNTB.
