Election to College of Fellows
With the exception of the inaugural year, not more than two
distinguished members may be elected to the College of Fellows each year. Only eminently qualified individuals should be considered for submission. This honor is reserved for those clearly deserving, and candidates may not necessarily be submitted or elected each year.

Who can submit for consideration?

  • Any SEAOI member
  • Self-nominations are not permitted

Nomination form will request:

  • Resume/CV covering body of work and service across career
  • Cover letter from nominator
  • References (3 minimum, not including nominating individual)

Fee

  • There will be no submission fee for the inaugural induction

Timeframe

  • Nominations will be open year-round. Those received before January 15th of each year will be considered for the induction in June of that year.

Election to the College of Fellows

  • Before presentation to the Board of Directors, all SEAOI Past Presidents will be invited to review the applications and provide comment
  • Election to the College of Fellows will be determined by a vote of the sitting Board of Directors
  • The sitting Executive Committee will serve as the tie-breaker

Criteria for Election to the College of Fellows
Criteria may include factors such as those listed below. Candidates are not expected to meet all criteria and the greatest weight will be given to 1-4.

  1. Demonstrated outstanding skills and professional achievement as a structural engineer, licensed in the state of Illinois.
  2. Made specific contributions to advancing the profession of structural engineering (professional journal publications, presentations and technical trainings, teaching, research, mentorship, etc.).
  3. Maintained continuous and active membership in SEAOI, serving as a committee chair, executive officer, director, etc.
  4. Served as a member of a local, state, or regional advisory Board, Commission, Committee, or other body having a direct relationship to the profession.
  5. Active in community service in direct relationship to the profession.

Recognition of Fellows
The Fellowship credential is a permanent recognition. Fellows are announced and inducted annually at SEAOI’s Awards Celebration. Complimentary attendance to the Awards Celebration is granted to the Fellow and guest during the year of induction. Fellows are also displayed on the SEAOI website along with their year of induction. Members of the College of Fellows may display the SEAOI logo with the word “Fellow” on their email signature, on their business cards, on their letterhead, and/or as a lapel pin. The designation may also be written as FSEAOI.

Maintenance of Fellows
In the unlikely event of SE licensure revocation or unethical practices unbecoming of a structural engineer, the Board reserves the right to revoke Fellowship credential status.

Responsibility of Fellows

  1. Mentorship and knowledge sharing
  2. Writing an editorial for the SEAOI newsletter and website
