Description
The January 2022 Dinner Meeting, presented by Aaron Mazeika of SOM, discusses the construction and design of the 800 W Fulton Market building. Recently completed in Chicago’s West Loop, 800 W Fulton adds a new dynamic architecture to this vibrant commercial area. Conceived through a highly integrated design process, the striking building exterior expresses the symbiosis between the structural and architectural systems. Designed pragmatically in response to site constraints, architectural goals, and construction costs, this project features long span post-tension floor framing, a cantilevered offset core, and an architecturally exposed exterior bracing system that is designed to accommodate Chicago’s demanding climate, while providing the primary lateral load resistance for the tower.
