Description
This study proposes a novel methodology for repairing aging steel bridges using photogrammetry and additive manufacturing to address corrosion-induced section loss. The methodology was validated through 3D image reconstruction of a prestressed concrete beam, an aluminum coupon, and an aged steel beam from a CTA bridge, with repair components designed and prototyped for critical areas of corrosion. Adhesive bonding, modeled using cohesive zone modeling (CZM), was chosen for its ability to manage the nonuniform surface morphology between the repair and the existing structure, with epoxy adhesives selected based on their high strength and resistance to environmental conditions.
